A Leash of Foxes, Oh My

Although my first love in making dolls remains fabric, I do enjoy working in polymer clay using techniques I learned from the amazing Kate Church.

This strange year I was searching you tube and came across some short videos made by Kate Church on sculpting a wee fox.  Well I had to try and one fox became two, became three and so on and so on...  Here are the leash of foxes I made three of which have gone to good homes and one which is on its way to our Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry (in appreciation for the calm and compassionate way that she has guided this province during this Covid epidemic).

Enjoy!

I have moved on to making cloth bunnies from vintage linens based on the work of the incredible Mr. Finch.  I will be posting them next week. Until then, keep safe.

2020 Begins Happy New Year

Happy Lunar New Year! Well the new decade has begun (or not as my sister maintains). My creative journey continues with Arley Berryhill ‘s pattern “Penny Dreadful “. I will be displaying her at the Coast Collective Gallery show called “Red”. She was a joy to make. I used the colour red as my inspiration:
Whenever I start a new project, I decide on the colour story and then put together fabrics and trims in a basket.  I generally never use all the fabrics I initially choose but it is important to have choices on hand when I am creating.  In making this doll, I had all the fabrics already in my home stash, including the trims and trinkets ( I love adding those special details to my dolls).  I am very pleased with the results and I named this gal Lady Victoria Scarlett Rossa, a fierce lady who always wears at least a touch of red:

Thank you Arley Berryhill for creating such a wonderful pattern for us to use.

My second entry for the "Red" show at the Coast Collective is called "Cardinal Ideas", based on a pattern by Frowning Francis (another one of my favourite designers):

The show will be on from January 29th through March 8th at the Coast Collective in Victoria.

Steampunk Crows

Well I cannot believe that we are well into November.  The weather has been so beautiful, unusually warm and sunny most days.  Alas, the rain has started and the leaves, once so beautiful and colourful, are now yellow and blowing off the trees.

Time to get crafting!  I thought I would make a couple more steampunk crows before the end of the year as I have had interest from the Coast Collective gallery (Wale Road, Collwood, BC) and from Two Hoots Gallery (Cobble Hill, Fisher Rd).

I ended up making three crows:

My first crow well, she is a world traveller and I even made her a wee travel journal, full of travel quotes: (This one is at the Coast Collective)

Cloth, polymer clay, found objects

The wee crow on her head is also polymer clay

You can see her metal purse on her crow foot!
The second crow is all about the light, so I named him "Lighten Up": (this crow is at Two Hoots Gallery in Cobble Hill)

He sits atop a light house

His wee companion inside is made all of polymer clay with metallic paint

Finally, to round off the trio, I made the iconic "Time Flies" to symbolize that the year is moving quickly to its end:

Take a look at his forked feet!

Notice this crow is tech savvy with his computer board on his wing

He is ready for flight and a new year!

Steampunk Crows

Well as many of you know by now, I love steampunk and making steampunk crows/ravens is too much fun.  Here are some photos of four of my latest crows. Two have been sold and two are at the Coast Collective Art Centre for sale.  Enjoy.
